Two Faculty Affiliates Win Awards

 Pnina Fichman, a professor of information science and director of the Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics at the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, serves on our Faculty Advisory Board and helps to provide oversight to program offerings and initiatives for our faculty affiliate groups, this includes the STEM Faculty Affiliates, Non-STEM Faculty Affiliates, and the Male Advocates and Allies for Equity Affiliates.

She is also part of a group that has been honored by the Association for Informatics Science and Technology Special Interest Group for Social Informatics (ASIS&T SIG SI) with their 2019 Social Informatics Best Paper award.

 Selma Šabanović, an associate professor of informatics and the assistant dean for graduate education at the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, is a long-time REU-W mentor. She has been awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation worth more than $640,000 to study methods to improve socially assistive robots to support mental health services in clinics and in patient homes.
