Creating an Inclusive Environment
All participants, including partners, speakers, attendees, staff, interns, and sponsors of Center events and meetings, are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct. Our Center staff and interns will ensure the enforcement of this Code throughout all Center meetings and events.
At the heart of our mission is the goal to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. We invite all individuals to actively engage and participate during Center events and meetings, contributing to positive experiences for all attendees.
To create an inclusive and respectful environment, the Center is dedicated to ensuring a harassment-free space for all participants. We stand firmly against any form of harassment based on gender, age, sexuality, disability, physical appearance or body size, race, ethnicity, and religious/spiritual views. Such behavior will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Expected behavior:
- Engage with events and meetings authentically and respectfully, fostering a healthy and active community.
- Be considerate in your speech and actions.
- Seek collaboration and understanding before resorting to conflict.
- Refrain from discriminatory, disrespectful, or harassing behavior or speech.
- Be attentive to the environment, especially regarding the well-being of fellow participants. If you witness any dangerous situation, someone in distress, or any violation of this Code of Conduct, please speak up and alert Center leaders, even if the situation appears insignificant or questionable.
Whoever violates these rules may be asked to leave the event or meeting without further discussion. Further action may be taken, if necessary, including but not limited to filing an Indiana University Bias Incident Report.
Reporting an incident:
If you witness a Code of Conduct violation during an event, workshop, or meeting, address and/or report the incident immediately. Don’t be complicit in letting the violation go on unnoted – responding to and/or reporting a violation helps us make the Center a space welcoming to all. This applies even when no one appears directly targeted or offended by the behavior.
To report a violation of the Code of Conduct during an event, workshop, or meeting, please approach a Center staff member. In case you cannot find someone to report to during or after an event, you may email cewit@indiana.edu, and your report will be forwarded to the Center Director for appropriate action.
