Project Description
This research project involves tracking the development of students' academic writing knowledge and practices across an extended inquiry project in which students are invited to use AI as a resource. Research apprentices will collect, analyze, and compare student writing, and may be asked to transcribe and code interviews with student writers.
Technology or Computational Component
The technological component of this research project involves analyzing student writing over time (the length of a semester) in relationship to their use of AI writing generators like ChatGPT at strategic points in the writing process. Research apprentices will be asked to consider the impact of generative AI on first-year students' writing development before, during, and after the drafting process.
