Projects

Project Description

This project seeks development support and evaluation of a custom voice-interactive deep learning artificial intelligence (AI) named "Carry" employed within gallery installation and VR environments. The entity is being trained on a small dataset of consensual conversations about migration and displacement, matriarchy, and cultural heritage. Research considers ethical frameworks within the intersections of cybernetics and storytelling, while ensuring participants feel valued, respected, and heard.

Technology or Computational Component

Student mentees will gain foundational knowledge on how voice-activated AI systems are developed through provided information and self-directed research. They will gather relevant case studies demonstrating how AI "chatbots" are deployed in business and creative contexts while positing known issues within those applications. They contribute by preparing transcriptions as training data and reviewing conversational prompts. Further, they compile participant responses to the technology from interactions within IU's Grunwald Gallery.
