Project Description
The student in this project will learn about the fascinating properties of light and relate it to the fundamentals of principles of optics, optical engineering, nanophotonics, and biophotonics. She will learn to understand how light can be precisely controlled to enable us to visualize living systems and probe their biological activity. Work will include literature survey, designing optical experiments with the help of optical simulation software, 3D modeling software and participating in experimental lab work to investigate the relationships between optical beam structure and imaging performance.
Technology or Computational Component
This project will involve 1.) writing scripts with software such as Python and Matlab to determine certain optical behavior, 2.) use of 3D modeling software such as Solidworks to aid optical engineering work, and 3.) programming to control lab instruments.
