Projects

Project Description

We use our eyes to sense the world around us and guide our actions. Research in my lab focuses on vision and walking. This research is highly interdisciplinary connecting human perception, neuroscience, informatics, and cognitive science. We employ several approaches to better understand how humans perform these various tasks: 1) Collect human behavioral data using a variety of technologies (eye tracking, motion capture, virtual reality), 2) Build computational models of human behavior and neural processing and 3) Use computer vision and machine learning algorithms to characterize the visual input that we experience in our everyday lives and build artificial agents who can perform similar tasks. A research apprentice can expect to work alongside current lab members on a project in one of these three areas. The specific focus will depend on your skills and interests.

Technology or Computational Component

Students will learn to use eye trackers and camera-based motion capture system. Both systems rely on open-source software. As a results students will learn some python programming and they will be exposed to how to interact within and contribute to open-source projects.
