Project Description
Research definitions of disinformation, misinformation, fake news, and propaganda across countries and languages, academia and popular press from 1980. Track those definitions from each discipline across the past 40 years and compare their change and development.
Technology or Computational Component
Students will learn how to do perform complex search using university library, newspaper, Web of Science, Semantic Scholar, and popular search engines to find relevant information. The information will need to be parsed in different ways: discipline, country/language, definition, date, etc. requiring a database. Depending upon the volume we may do semantic analysis and create different types of visualization: word cloud, network diagram, graphs, etc.
