Project Description

This project, embedded within the Healthcare Journeys (HCJ) Lab, aims to explore and understand the various facets of women’s health to design new technologies to empower and engage women with their health. While there are many ongoing projects within the lab, this project is embedded in the intersection of women’s health, personal informatics, and religious/cultural practices. Our primary population of studies is Muslim women in America- We are collecting data to illuminate better how tracking technologies could be more inclusive of women’s health, needs, and values, especially within their faith and cultural context. Subsequent studies will build on this work to help promote inclusiveness in designing technologies for women’s health journey.

Technology or Computational Component

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the ProHealth and Healthcare journey Labs. I have mentored Emerging Scholars over the last academic cycle. I have a passion for women’s health work and inclusivity in a human-centered approach to research and design of designing interactive technologies in Women’s Health. In the context of this project, we will focus on data collection and data analysis. I also provided my mentees the opportunity self design their project and execute a pilot study. An interest in women’s health and a passion for learning and doing are key ingredients if you are going to join this project. Students will be taught and mentored to be good researchers who can apply their skills to future research projects. Students will learn how to plan a research study, apply for IRB approval, conduct pilot studies, collect both qualitative and quantitative data, data analysis, and how to communicate their research findings.
