Project Description
This is an interdisciplinary project that uses conversation analysis to examine how doctors, patients, and caregivers share information and develop therapeutic alliances across advancing illness trajectories. More particularly, this dataset includes audio-recorded clinical interactions involving children with life-ending disease, their parents, and clinicians. The goals of this project include generating empirical findings of best practices related to these interactions, as well as creating training for working with children and their caregivers when delivering difficult health information.
Technology or Computational Component
This project involves creating specialized interactional transcripts and conducting comprehensive literature reviews within MAXQDA -- a qualitative data analysis software. Team members will learn how to use MAXQDA as a primary organizational and analysis tool to support the entirety of the project. In addition, team members will participate in generating materials for the communication training that present animated, anonymized "real-time" clinical talk. No previous experience with MAXQDA or animation software is needed.
