Project Description
In this project, the student will create a digital story with a woman they love - the idea is to use love as a methodological foundation, a relational anchor, to interview and tell stories of lives of ordinary women. The story will be created with a loved one and then uploaded to our collection of stories (ofwomenwelove.org). The mentee will also create short videos of the process and develop an understanding of the engaging in research from a feminist perspective. Our project is a collaborative one through the Feminist Research Collective and so the mentee will also learn how to do collaborative research.
Technology or Computational Component
We use a Wix site for our website, but we have used storymapping and ARC-GIS to create our stories. However, any digital platform can work, for example, wordpress can work. We also use digital recordings in our stories. We invite people to do stories in languages other than English, but, of course, English-based stories are also fine. The student will be doing interviews and collecting video, audio and photographic data and integrating these digitally into the crafted story. The student will also use technology means for connecting with the woman they love at a distance to create the story.
