Project Description
I'm pursuing a series of research papers on different public policies and their effect of "Gig Economy Entrepreneurship" using "big data" on AirBNB. Do high taxes encourage or discourage people into renting out properties on AirBNB? Did the arrival of AirBNB trigger campaign contributions from the hotel industry to politicians? What are the personal characteristics of AirBNB entrepreneurs?
Technology or Computational Component
The main data set is massive and not very clean, which will require some creative thinking on how to fix it into a workable set. After cleaning, data visualization will become important on how best to learn from the data. Software would likely include at least R and Stata. Possible that some machine-learning processes would come into play depending on the speed of progress made through the project.
