Project Description

Most students think that accounting is simply a set of rules: Memorize the rules and do the correct math and you that's all! The truth is that accounting is comprised of various standards that allow for judgement and require critical thinking. Further, accounting standards are constantly changing, requiring accountants to stay up-to-date with a variety of issues. This project will investigate the impact of teaching students how to access and interpret accounting standards. Does an increase in the knowledge of how to access and interpret accounting standards have an impact on intangible factors (such as motivation, curiosity, and/or confidence) that may influence an accountant's career?

Technology or Computational Component

Students will learn how to use Qualtrics to create surveys. Students will analyze pilot data and resulting data using STATA. Students will also learn how to access and use accounting standards (online library).
