Land use and land cover change in an Indiana County
International Studies Major (Hamilton Lugar School of Global & International Studies)
Avram Primack (O'Neill School of Public & Environmental Affairs)
We will be using GIS programs, image services, and sweat to map the landcover of Hamilton or some other county in Indiana using image services provided by the counties. The goal is to measure the direction and rate of change in land cover. We will be mapping urban, agriculture, forest, and other landscape attributes and computing change over time.
Technology or Computational Component
This project uses Geographic Information Systems software, cloud based storage, virtual Machines, and web based services. The student researcher will learn enough GIS so they can create map layers that include data on land cover. This will be used to map areas of change and calculate the rate and magnitude of change.
