Smart home devices in Airbnb
Marketing Major (Kelley School of Business)
Shrirang Mare (School of Informatics, Computing, & Engineering)
This work builds on our previous studies with Airbnb users and evaluation of two-factor authentication methods. The project has two goals: First, to understand Airbnb users' perceptions about security and privacy risks due to smart devices in Airbnb. Second, to design and evaluate usable two-factor authentication mechanisms for home environment in Airbnb. The project would involve designing experiments with Airbnb population.
Technology or Computational Component
The project has two components. One involves conducting interviews with Airbnb users and analysis qualitative data from the interviews. The second component involves designing and implementing an authentication method for Airbnb users, and testing that method with Airbnb users through a user study. Lastly, the student would have an opportunity to contribute and learn about writing academic papers.
