Women & Tech Sci-Fi Club

Monday, January 08, 2024

The Women & Tech Sci-Fi Club is set to launch in January 2024, offering a dynamic space for women across disciplines to delve into the captivating realm of science fiction. The multimedia club aims to unite women passionate about the interdisciplinary aspects of science fiction, spanning literature, film, and interactive digital storytelling.

At its core, the club seeks to create a vibrant community that fosters exploration, analysis, and appreciation of the imaginative elements within science fiction, filling a void in the often-overlooked synergy between art and technology. Advocating for a humanistic perspective on technological interventions, the club positions itself as a hub for women keen on examining the intersections of technology with art, narrative, science, and various forms of multimedia.

The club's objectives extend to spotlighting the role of women in science fiction, encouraging members to use the genre as a tool to reimagine the potentials of emerging technologies. Through curated monthly activities, the club will explore key themes such as race, time, gender, and technology, asking fundamental questions through the lens of science fiction. Multimedia, including literature, documentaries, films, video games, podcasts, artworks, virtual reality content, and other interactive media, will be central to the club's discussions and activities.

The 2024 schedule kicks off in January with a screening event, aligning with National Science Fiction Day. Subsequent months will feature engaging activities such as a VR headset game highlighting the intersection of race, gender, and technology in honor of Black History Month, and recommendations of science fiction materials celebrating women's contributions during Women's History Month.
