Job Summary

Women Who Code is dedicated to empowering our community to confidently use technology in an environment that fosters creativity and teamwork. We are a community that works together to learn new coding skills, share ideas, and have fun! Our group hosts numerous workshops from object-oriented programming to learning database languages. With the help of our affiliates, we put on events that fit current technology trends in business. Bring a friend and join in on the fun at the Women Who Code events this semester!

Responsibilities:

  • The lead intern, with the support of a faculty champion, will launch, build, and grow an engaged learning community of undergraduate and graduate women students focused primarily on the shared interest of coding.
  • Create a strategic plan for the year and include mission, goals, marketing, implementation plan, and desired outcomes.
  • Schedule events, workshops, speakers, and other activities for the IU community to further common interests.
  • Supervise two interns who will assist in the development of this community.
  • Provide timely reports to the Center regarding marketing plans, attendance, and assessment information following various programs.
  • Commit to the overall mission of the Center and to the goals of the SIG to develop a meaningful community.
  • Serve as a role model to interns and members.
  • Be an advocate for women and underrepresented groups in coding.
  • Submit weekly progress reports to faculty champion.

All student employees are required to:

  • Host weekly meetings with lead champion and interns.
  • Attend bi-monthly Lead Intern meetings on Fridays from 3-4:30pm.
  • Attend mandatory Leadership Training on August 22-23, 2025.
  • Attend and present at our annual Summit, scheduled for 3/6 and 3/7, 2026.
  • Attend Intern Celebrations on 12/5/25 from 4:30-6:30p and 4/26/26 from 5:30-7:30p.

Qualifications

General

  • Must be a current IU Bloomington student.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in coding.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in partnership with the team.
  • Knowledgeable about the use of social media.
  • Passionate about sharing enthusiasm for technology.

Schedule and Pay

Work Schedule

An average of 8-10 hours per week.
