Job Summary

Extended Reality (XR) describes a range of computing platforms that make use of our natural 3D world in combination with computer graphics/media. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) remain the most popular examples of XR technology. XR is an emerging area of intensive research and innovation and is already being used in many areas of study at IU including in game design, art and architecture, business, computer programming, history, language learning, and more. The Extended Reality (XR) Student Alliance Team is a new initiative designed to provide opportunities for students to learn, grow, and thrive in this emerging tech sector. We are looking for a Lead Intern to launch and lead this exciting new team!

Responsibilities:

  • Research, investigate and formulate a plan to educate, inform, and inspire the IU Community around this technology including the following:
    • Write a mission statement and formulate a team plan during the fall semester.
    • Create a strategic plan for the year and include the mission, goals, marketing, implementation plan, and desired outcomes.
    • Recruit, hire, and supervise two interns during the spring semester, who will help develop this community once the team is established.
    • Connect with faculty and staff in the field and identify and recruit a team’s Champion.
    • Make connections on campus and become familiar with the XR courses, research, and work at IUB.
    • Attend workshops and programs around campus that utilize XR technologies.
    • Meet with Center staff and interns to discuss ways XR technology may be incorporated into current programs and events through collaboration.
  • Build and grow an engaged learning community of undergraduate and graduate women students focused primarily on the shared interest in XR technologies.
  • Schedule events, workshops, speakers, crash courses, and other activities for the IU community to further common interests.
  • Provide timely reports regarding marketing plans, budgeting, events attendance, and assessment information following various programs and workshops.
  • Commit to exploring and learning about XR technology and underrepresented groups in the field to be a good advocate and educator.
  • Submit weekly progress reports and end-of-semester reports to Center staff and team champion.

All student employees are required to:

  • Host weekly meetings with lead champion and interns.
  • Attend bi-monthly all Lead Intern Meetings.
  • Attend mandatory Leadership Training on August 22-23, 2025.
  • Attend and present at our annual Summit, scheduled for 3/6 and 3/7, 2026.
  • Attend Intern Celebrations on 12/5/25 from 4:30-6:30p and 4/26/26 from 5:30-7:30p.

Qualifications

Prior leadership experience. Strong communication and project management skills. Knowledgeable and experience with one or more XR technologies including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), 3D visualization, and XR experience development. Passionate about sharing enthusiasm for XR technologies and supporting women and underrepresented groups in technology.

8-10 hours per week.
