Job Summary

Allies for Equity seeks to advocate for women through educating other IU (Indiana University) students about challenges that women in technology adjacent fields and disciplines face. Interns will run programs to educate and inspire other students in how to become allies and accomplices in helping dismantle systemic barriers to women.  The team’s goal is to provide an opportunity for students of all genders to support and engage with the Center’s mission though exposure, advocacy, and practical application.  Through involvement with this team, you will learn about the challenges of women as well as ways that you can leverage this knowledge and your identity to raise awareness and combat negative influences that perpetuate the male dominated culture in technology. 

Responsibilities:

  • The lead intern, with the support of the staff champion, to launch, build, and grow an engaged learning community of undergraduate and graduate students of all genders, but particularly addressing men, who are interested in continuously engaging in and advocating for allyship with women.
  • Create a strategic plan for the team and include mission, goals, marketing, implementation plan and desired outcomes.
  • Schedule events, workshops, speakers, and other activities.
  • Supervise two interns who will assist in the development of this community.
  • Provide timely reports regarding marketing plans, attendance, and assessment information following various programs.
  • Commit to the Center’s mission and to the goals of the team to develop a meaningful community.
  • Serve as a role model on IU’s campus.
  • Be an advocate for women and underrepresented groups.
  • Meet weekly with champion and interns.
  • Submit weekly progress reports to the champion and director.

All student employees are required to:

  • Meet weekly with intern staff and staff champion.
  • Attend bi-monthly Lead Intern meetings.
  • Attend mandatory Leadership Training on August 23-24, 2024.
  • Attend and present at our annual Summit, scheduled for 3/7 and 3/8, 2025.
  • Attend Intern Celebrations on 12/6/24 from 4:30-6:30p and 4/27/25 from 5:30-7:30p.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be a current IU Bloomington student
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in partnership with the team

Desired Qualifications: An ideal candidate for this position is passionate about learning about gender inequality in tech and teaching others about this inequality and what they can do to help. Experience with public speaking, leadership, and event planning.

Work Schedule

An average of 8-10 hours per week.
