Staff Mentor/Advocate Awards

Staff Mentor/Advocate Awards

Recognizing staff who champion women across IU

Each year, the Center of Excellence for Women & Technology honors outstanding staff mentors and advocates who go above and beyond to support women at Indiana University—especially those who nurture technical and leadership skills.

Mentors offer guidance, coaching, and thoughtful feedback that help others grow. Advocates use their influence to create opportunities, raise visibility, and make space for others to succeed. Both roles are vital in advancing equity and inclusion across our campus.

Award recipients are selected based on their long-term impact and dedication to fostering a more inclusive, supportive environment for women in academia, research, and professional spaces.

Award Considerations

Honorees typically demonstrate:

  • A strong history of mentoring women through professional development, skill-building, or career advancement opportunities
  • Consistent support of colleagues or student workers within departments, units, or campus initiatives
  • Meaningful career guidance, such as resume feedback, interview preparation, or connecting others to growth opportunities
  • Advocacy for women through organizing inclusive programs, serving on committees, or leading efforts that enhance equity and workplace culture
