Faculty Mentor/Advocate Awards

Faculty Mentor/Advocate Awards

Recognizing faculty who champion women across IU

Each year, the Center of Excellence for Women & Technology honors outstanding faculty mentors and advocates who go above and beyond to support women at Indiana University—especially those who nurture technical and leadership skills.

Mentors offer guidance, coaching, and thoughtful feedback that help others grow. Advocates use their influence to create opportunities, raise visibility, and make space for others to succeed. Both roles are vital in advancing equity and inclusion across our campus.

Award recipients are selected based on their long-term impact and dedication to fostering a more inclusive, supportive environment for women in academia, research, and professional spaces.

Award Considerations

Honorees typically demonstrate:

  • A strong history of mentoring women through feedback on research, proposals, grants, or publications
  • Consistent support of mentees in labs, classrooms, departments, or professional organizations
  • Meaningful career guidance—from job applications to mock interviews to promotion support
  • Advocacy for women through committee representation, inclusive initiatives, or raising concerns that improve equity and opportunity
