Job Summary
MediaMakers is an interdisciplinary team committed to empowering students working across the technology, design, and media spectrum. Together, we aim to build confidence and knowledge in the use of design software to promote the academic, career, and social advancement of women. MediaMakers supports the needs of students involved in media at IU, while also reaching the broader community of graduate students, staff, and professors interested in exploring the nuanced intersection of technology and design. The team provides opportunities for skill-based workshops, instructional tutorials, professional development, discussions on the ethics of technological advancements, networking, and building a shared community. By making digital media creation more accessible, MediaMakers develops and maintains an environment of continuous technology-based learning that supports IU's vision for excellence.
Lead Intern Job Description:
- The lead intern, with the support of the faculty champion, will launch, build, and grow an engaged learning community of undergraduate and graduate women students interested in media and technology.
- Create a strategic plan for the year that includes mission, goals, marketing, implementation plan, and desired outcomes.
- Host workshops that aim to share knowledge of industry-standard design software with the IU community.
- Schedule events, workshops, speakers, and other activities for the IU community to further common interests.
- Workshop innovative marketing strategies.
- Supervise two interns who will assist in the development of this community.
- Provide timely reports regarding marketing plans, attendance, and assessment information following various programs.
- Commit to the Center’s mission and to the goals of the team to develop a meaningful community.
- Serve as a role model to interns and members.
- Advocate for women and underrepresented groups in the media and tech arena.
All student employees are required to:
- Host weekly meetings with lead champion and interns.
- Attend bi-monthly Lead Intern meetings.
- Attend mandatory Leadership Training on August 22nd-23rd, 2025.
- Attend and present at our annual Summit, scheduled for 3/6 and 3/7, 2026.
- Attend Intern Celebrations on 12/5/25 from 4:30-6:30pm and 4/26/26 from 5:30-7:30pm.
