Whether you're talking to a colleague, a funder, a legislator, or a student, communicating your research clearly is key. Join us for an enlightening, interactive session offering insights, tips, and methods for getting to the point, connecting with your audiences, and mastering social media. You'll also learn about university tools and resources that can help you expand your communication skills. Lunch is provided, too!

Lauren Bryant

Lauren Bryant is associate director of research communications for the Office of the Vice Provost for Research at IU Bloomington. She’s been with the office (through several different reorganizations and renamings) for 20 years. Before joining OVPR, Lauren was managing editor of the Indiana Alumni Magazine and a senior editor at Beacon Press in Boston. Likeher colleagues Nicole and April, Lauren works to promote the good work and achievements of IU faculty, particularly on the IU Bloomington campus.

April Toler

April Toler is senior associate director of research communications for the Office of the Vice President for Research. She joined the office in June 2019 after sixyears with what is now IU Studios. Prior to coming to IU, April spent more than 10 years as a newspaper reporter working in Illinois, Florida and Indiana. April’s current role is to promote the work of the Responding to the Addictions Crisis Grand Challenge, and addictions work at IU, through internal and external media outlets and to provide communications support to researchers presenting their work.

Nicole Wilkins

Nicole Wilkins is the Executive Director for Research Communications, IU Office of the Vice President for Research. She is a native of Southern California and received a degree in English from the University of California-Irvine, where she also worked in marketing and communications. Wilkins brings more than 18 years of professional experience to this role. She has worked for Fox Television Studios in Beverly Hills, California; Zimmer in Warsaw, Indiana; and the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce in Fort Wayne. She has run her own marketing firm, 260media, and served as chief communications officer for the regional IU/Purdue campus of IPFW in Fort Wayne.
