Advocates and Allies for Equity Graduate Assistant

Pronouns:
she/her/they/them
Email:
ocopelan@iu.edu
Campus:
IU Bloomington

Olivia Copeland is a Ph.D. student in the College of Education and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in education from Ohio University. Her research interests include identity development theory (e.g., non-monosexual identity), undergraduate social media engagement, activism in higher education, and critical theory/methodology (including queer theory, critical whiteness studies, and decolonial theory). In particular, they are interested in examining how individuals with intersecting marginalized and privileged identities make sense of power and oppression through their identities. Olivia hopes to produce research that provides pathways for increased intersectionality and equity in existing marginalized communities, such as the LGBTQ community, and challenges imbedded power structures in higher education.

In their role, Olivia seeks to develop initiatives and partnerships that actively reduce bias in a variety of campus settings, using grounded, research-informed practices.
